EMU Associate Professor to Present at STEM Friday – March 16

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018

Dr. Anne Casper, Associate Professor at Eastern Michigan University, will present “Making an Innovative Course Design Work” at the next STEM Friday event Friday, March 16 in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts Room 135. STEM Friday begins at 11:30 a.m. with a free lunch and beverages. All are welcome.

Dr. Casper will begin her presentation at 12 p.m. and conclude at 1 p.m. She describes her presentation: We adapted a high-structure course model developed at a selective research-intensive university to a regional public university with an essentially open-enrollment policy. The adaptation required three distinct experimental course designs before data on exam scores and failure rates indicated changes in student success.  The successful design included pre-class preparation videos, intensive active-learning and peer instruction exercises in class, and weekly practice with exam-like questions.

For more information, contact Eric Haynes, STEM Friday Coordinator, at Ext. 2360 or eric_haynes@owens.edu.

Annual Review of Pay Rates, Deductions, and Benefits

Monday, March 12th, 2018

Current Employees: Time to complete annual review of personal pay rates and deductions

As we are in “tax season”, awaiting the arrival of Spring weather, it’s the perfect time to review your pay stub, payroll data, including hourly or salaried pay rates, as well as all deductions. Your rates of pay and your deductions can be found on your Ozone Account.

To assess the following information:

  • Sign into your Ozone account
  • Select the “Employee” tab

Found within the “Employment Details” box:

  • Pay Information
    • Select “My Pay Stub”—will detail your hours you are paid and any deductions withheld per pay date
  • Job Summary”—will detail your rates of pay
  • Tax Forms
    • Select “My W4”—is where you can find your federal tax status

Also, review the “Benefits and Deductions” box for current benefits, beneficiaries, and retirement information.

Each semester has its own “Payroll calendar” created to detail the various start and end pay dates of the many “Part of Term” class sessions along with the Overload, Facilitator, and Coordinator Pay Dates. This is found in the “Compensation & Payroll” section of the Human Resources intranet site.

If you need to make any changes to your Federal, State (Ohio or Michigan) please complete the respective form.  The forms can be found on the “Forms” section of the Human Resources intranet site under heading of “Taxes and Retirement”

If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact George Pollauf, Payroll Specialist, at Ext 7202.
