The Owens Community College Intranet

September is National Suicide Prevention Month

September is National Suicide Prevention Month and the College community encourages open and honest conversation about the warning signs and risks posed by this health crisis. Warning signs may include: drastic changes in mood and behavior, persistent feelings of hopelessness and depression, frequently talking or thinking about death, isolation of self, social withdrawal, making threats or plans of suicide, and major changes in sleeping or eating habits. Increased awareness of risk factors and warning signs for suicide and community involvement in creating strategies to prevent students from taking their own lives are key factors in suicide prevention.

To help raise awareness, Owens employees have placed 1,100 pinwheels (on display Sept. 10-14) outside of College Hall. The pinwheels will be on display in the Findlay-area Campus courtyard September 17-21. Each pinwheel represents one of the 1,100 college students who completes suicide each year. Hope is real. Help is real. Encourage Hope!
