Give Kids A Smile – February 1

On February 1, Owens Community College, in collaboration with the Toledo Dental Society, is offering the Give-Kids-A-Smile Program for “at-risk” children ages 6 months -18 years at the Owens Dental Clinic.

The services will include at no charge:

• Dental Education

• X-rays

• Dental Screening

• Oral Prophylaxis (cleaning)

• Dental sealants

• Limited restorations (fillings) at no charge as triaged by the dentist

• Patients who need further dental treatment may be assigned a local dentist to complete dental treatment or

seek treatment at the Dental Center of Northwest Ohio

Please call to schedule an appointment at the Owens Community College Dental Clinic at (567)661-7294. Make sure to identify interest in Give-Kids-A-Smile Day February 1, otherwise our regular services are $30.00.

Summer 2019 Work & Play Brochure Course Ideas Welcome

Workforce & Community Services is in the planning stages for our May through August Work & Play brochure and need your help. We are always looking for class ideas, so if you or someone you know would like to teach, please have them contact Jaime Wineland at (567)661-7320 or email jaime@owens.edu. Or if you have been looking for a class and we haven’t offered it, please let us know! Please submit ideas by Monday, January 28.

Scholarships Available for New and Returning Students – New Application Process

The Owens Community College Foundation has over 75 scholarships available and awards to over 150 students annually in all program areas.

The application process has changed this year and is now completely online and very easy for students to use.  Only one application needs to be completed to be considered for all available scholarships.

  1. This new application process will become live on Monday, January 14, 2019
  2. The priority application deadline is March 8, 2019
  3. The scholarship application can be found at this link beginning January 14, 2019https://www.owens.edu/foundation/scholarships/
  4. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) also needs to be completed by March 8, 2019

The Center for Campus and Community Connections

We have a NEW name!  The Center for Experiential and Community Engaged Learning has been renamed as The Center for Campus and Community Connections.  Our Civic Ambassadors have also been renamed as Connection Mentors.

We continue to be committed to building connections to resources, community and support for our students and our whole campus community!  We remain located in College Hall 154/155 with the Owens Harvest Food Pantry is College Hall 147 – come by and see us!  Connection Mentors will be visiting classes and introducing themselves throughout the semester.

Enter to Win Free ECHL All-Star Weekend Walleye Tickets

All College employees are eligible to enter a special drawing for two tickets to the ECHL All-Star Weekend at the Huntington Center and Hensville Park January 19-21.

Each ticket includes:

  • Admission to Hensville Park Saturday, January 19 or Sunday, January 20 for the ECHL All-Star Weekend Fan Fest
  • Admission to the All-Star Game Monday, January 21
  • Commemorative 2019 ECHL All-Star Blanket

Holiday Payroll Notice – Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Monday, January 7th, 2019

All payroll changes (i.e. tax withholding changes or employment recommendation forms), as well as time cards and time sheets for the January  25, 2019, payroll must be received by Human Resources prior to 9 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2019.

Findlay-area campus staff may submit items in the regularly scheduled courier run on Thursday, January 17, or scan & e-mail to: payroll@owens.edu by 9 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2019.

Web Time Entry time sheets must be submitted to supervisors by noon, Friday, January 18, and approved by supervisors by 4 p.m., the same day.

EPAF’s and Employment recommendation forms are due by 9 a.m., Thursday, January 18, to assure payment for the January 25, 2019, pay date.

Any student employees working beyond 9 a.m. Friday, January 18, should have their supervisor write in their scheduled time out.  Any adjustments to the times, which are written in by the supervisor, will be processed during the following payroll on February 8, 2019.

Payroll checks will be distributed at their regular times.
