Reception for Dr. Derek Alderman – February 14

Dr. Derek Alderman, Professor of Geography at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, will be visiting campus Thursday, February 14. Dr. Alderman’s research in cultural and historical geography largely focuses on landscapes of public memory, race, critical place name studies, and social/spatial justice. We will be hosting a reception for Derek in the Founders Hall Lounge from 3-4 p.m. on February 14. Please stop by to say “hello” and grab some refreshments.

Derek will be giving his formal presentation as part of the UT Geography & Planning Department’s Colloquium Series on Friday, Feb 15 at 2:30 p.m. Owens faculty and students are invited to attend. The presentation is titled, “The Maps Behind the Movement: African American Freedom Struggles as Geographical Work”.

Dr. Alderman’s visit to Northwest Ohio is sponsored by the American Association of Geographers Visiting Scientist Program and the Owens, University of Toledo, and BGSU chapters of Gamma Theta Upsilon.
