Concert Band Spring Concert – May 5

All are invited to the Owens Concert Band Spring Concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 5 in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts Mainstage Theatre. Under the direction of William “Fred” Dais, the concert will include music from Broadway, the movies, George Gershwin, American marches and more! Featured will be flute soloist Marene Fondessy playing “Meditation” from “Thais” by Jules Massenet and a trumpet trio performing J.J. Richards’ “Triad.” Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the concert in the Rotunda.

Student Art Show Exhibits Through May 10

The Student Art Show exhibition will run through May 10 in the Terhune Gallery.  The juried exhibition will showcase the best student work produced in the College’s Visual Art classes this academic year.  The event is free and open to the public.

Welcome Missy Brown

We are very pleased to announce that Melissa “Missy” Brown started on Monday of this week as the Manager of Alumni Relations & Development.  She will also serve as Executive Director of the Alumni Association and will be responsible for growing alumni and donor engagement programs that align with the College’s strategic plan.  She is also responsible for strengthening support of Owens Community College through fundraising initiatives including the annual giving campaigns.

Missy has over six years of sales and non-profit development experience; including two years of direct fund development work with the American Cancer Society.  This does not include fourteen years of her volunteer fund development experience with the Children’s Miracle Network, University of Michigan Hospital Cancer Center, American Cancer Society, and the Jim Brown Memorial Fund & Golf Outing.  Missy also has significant experience in the area of engagement and enjoys building relationships.

Prior to working as an account manager of corporate relations at the American Cancer Society, she managed over 600 relationships at Thomson Reuters Tax & Accounting firm also as an account manager.  She also brings experience in social selling, networking events and email marketing, which she gained most recently while working for a start-up software company (SaaS) as a sales development representative.  In 2010, Missy earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Brain, Behavior, & Cognitive Science from the University of Michigan. She also is credentialed with the Dale Carnegie Effective Communication & Human Relations Certification (2007).

Fire Safety is May’s ‘Think Safety’ Topic

The Office of Workplace Safety and Health is promoting fire safety in May. In the event of a fire, it’s important to leave a building as quickly as possible. Due to modern building materials and furnishings, the time to escape a fire has decreased from 17 minutes to less than three minutes, according to Underwriters Laborator.

Faculty/Staff Veterans Commencement Cords
